Toronto Blue Jays television broadcaster Gregg Zaun was fired from his position at Rogers Sportsnet on Thursday following allegations of inappropriate workplace conduct.

Rogers Media president Rick Brace said in a statement that several women came forward with allegations of "inappropriate behavior and comments" against Zaun this week. Zaun's contract was terminated effective immediately following an investigation.

"This type of behaviour completely contradicts our standards and our core values," Brace said, according to Sportsnet. "We believe in a professional workplace where all employees feel comfortable and respected. We are grateful to our employees who spoke with us and we will take every measure to protect their privacy."

The 46-year-old Zaun played 16 major-league seasons as a catcher for nine teams, most notably spending five seasons with the Blue Jays from 2004-08. He had been a popular and often controversial television analyst on the Blue Jays' pre- and postgame shows since his retirement in 2011.
