The Dallas Cowboys announced Sunday that they have released running back Darren McFadden.
McFadden will be free to sign with any team if he clears waivers.
The 10-year veteran was a healthy inactive all season, including the three weeks since Ezekiel Elliott was sidelined by suspension.
His best season with the Cowboys was his first in 2015, when he rushed 239 times for 1,089 yards and three touchdowns. He added 40 receptions on 54 targets for 328 yards.
The Cowboys' backfield will be left to sixth-year veteran Alfred Morris and third-year player Rod Smith.
