The Detroit Lions claimed veteran pass-rusher Dwight Freeney off waivers Wednesday after he was released by the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced.

Freeney will be reunited with Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, who coached him with the Indianapolis Colts from 2009-11.

The 37-year-old sack specialist appeared in just four games for the Seahawks this season, notching three sacks and one pass deflection.

It's unlikely Freeney plays for the Lions this week, as he'll have little time to prepare before the team faces the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.
