NFLPA announces investment into dementia research

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Players Association announced on Thursday its investment into a venture capital fund focused on finding treatments for neurodegenerative diseases, such as those associated with dementia.

"This investment continues the NFLPA's commitment and legacy to research that can improve the long-term health and well-being of NFL players," a release from the NFLPA reads.

The players union began looking into the investment about a year ago, and will be investing in the Dementia Discovery Fund based in London, England, and Boston.

"We believe the DDF's novel model presents a real opportunity to improve the treatment of neurological diseases, and, importantly for us, provide valuable insights into neurodegenerative disorders which have been associated with our sport," said Ahmad Nassar, president of NFL Players, Inc.
