Harbaugh delivers ultimatum to Michigan kicker: 'It's a meritocracy'
Michigan won its third straight game Saturday, but Jim Harbaugh wasn't too pleased with his kicker.
Wolverines placekicker Quinn Nordin missed a 31-yard field goal against Maryland, leading to a heated discussion with Harbaugh on the sidelines. The Michigan head coach expressed his frustration Monday with the state of the kicking game.
"Strap on the iron jock," Harbaugh said, according to Nick Baumgardner of USA TODAY Sports. "And kick the ball through the uprights."
Harbaugh also stated he would be making a change at the position if Nordin doesn't break out of the slump.
"It's a process. He made 10 in a row and he's missed three (straight) now. We need that execution on game day," Harbaugh added. "I'm not going to go into all the kicking nuances and specifics. It's really simple: He's got to make kicks. It's a meritocracy. If not him, then we'll give someone else a shot at it. That's where we're at."
