With the general manager meetings underway, the Kansas City Royals are scheduled to sit down with Scott Boras on Tuesday, the agent of both Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas, in an attempt to retain both of the free agents' services, according to a report from Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

While Hosmer and Moustakas are among those who could potentially leave the Royals this offseason, fellow free agents Alcides Escobar and Lorenzo Cain seem to be all but out of Kansas City. Escobar is seen as an option for the San Diego Padres, while the Royals have conceded that Cain will play elsewhere next year.

Hosmer, the 28-year-old first baseman, is seen as one of the top free-agent batters on the market, and will assuredly agree to a nine-figure contract.

Meanwhile, Moustakas, the 29-year-old third baseman, is coming off of the second-best season of his career at the dish, and is likely to generate substantial interest as well.

Both Hosmer and Moustakas came up through the Royals' farm system after being drafted in 2008 and 2007, respectively.

According to Heyman, the Royals "don't necessarily seem very confident" about retaining both Hosmer and Moustakas, with the preference being toward the former.
