49ers to have Garoppolo active as backup vs. Cardinals

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says he plans to have recently acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo active Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, but he won't start, according to Jennifer Lee Chan of Niners Nation.
C.J. Beathard will make a third consecutive start under center for the 49ers. He's completed 58 of 110 pass attempts for 647 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions.
With Brian Hoyer being released shortly after Garoppolo's acquisition, the 49ers were left shorthanded, as practice team quarterback Nick Mullens is the only other option to back up Beathard.
