Bob McNair meets with Texans players, regrets word choice
Houston Texans owner Bob McNair met with his players Saturday morning, a day before their Week 8 game and a day after causing a controversy that infuriated the players.
McNair apologized to the team for stating "we can't have the inmates running the prison" in relation to player protests during the national anthem. Equating players to prisoners caused his team to consider walking out from practice Friday and making a team demonstration Sunday.
"I know they were upset. I wanted to answer their questions. I told them if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't use that expression," McNair said, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
He later released a statement:
