Stanton to meet with Marlins about future following World Series
Miami Marlins outfielder, and 2017 home run king, Giancarlo Stanton appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Tuesday night to discuss long balls, the playoffs, and speculation about his future.
Stanton, who hit a whopping 59 home runs in 2017, told Kimmel he hasn't spoken to the Marlins' new ownership group yet, but will do so following the Fall Classic.
"We are going to get together after the World Series," Stanton said.
There have been rumblings that the slugger could be on the move in the offseason if the team decides to rebuild. Kimmel noted that Stanton is a California native, and wondered if the Los Angeles Dodgers would be his ideal landing spot.
"I grew up a Dodger fan, if that’s where they want to go," he said.
Kimmel also asked about rumors that the Boston Red Sox are interested in acquiring him, and whether or not being used as a designated hitter would be fine with him.
"I could be a DH," Stanton replied.
The 27-year-old isn't slated to be a free agent until after 2027. He signed a 13-year, $325-million contract that kicked off with the 2015 season, though he can opt out after 2020.
