The Seattle Seahawks will place defensive end Cliff Avril on injured reserve with a neck injury, head coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday on SiriusXM NFL Radio.
"Cliff Avril will go on IR," Carroll said. "He's seeing a bunch of doctors, seriously looking at a big decision."
Avril is contemplating retirement, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 31-year-old played in four games this season before suffering the injury.
Avril was coming off arguably the best season of his career, in which he recorded 39 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles in 16 games.
The veteran defensive end helped the Seahawks capture their lone Super Bowl in franchise history during the 2013 season.
