Gordon Hayward was diagnosed with a fractured left ankle Tuesday following his nasty landing in the season opener, according to the broadcast.
Hayward was examined by team doctors from both the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers before he was sent to the hospital.
He sustained the gruesome injury after rising to catch an alley-oop pass from Kyrie Irving. LeBron James jumped to stop the play, which might have caused Hayward to lose focus on his landing.
Boston signed Hayward in free agency on a four-year maximum contract this offseason. He averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.5 assists last season as a member of the Utah Jazz.
