Dolphins trade Ajayi to Eagles for 4th-round pick
The Miami Dolphins have traded starting running back Jay Ajayi to the Philadelphia Eagles for a fourth-round pick, the Eagles announced Tuesday.
The blockbuster move gives the Super Bowl hopeful Eagles a legitimate star in the backfield to play alongside MVP candidate Carson Wentz.
Meanwhile, the 4-3 Dolphins were in need of a major shake-up on offense after being shut out by the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7. They rank dead last in yards and points per game over the first seven games of the year.
However, giving up on Ajayi - who made the Pro Bowl in 2016 after a 1,272-yard campaign - is a radical move by head coach Adam Gase and the Dolphins' front office.
Ajayi has struggled this season, averaging 3.4 yards per carry and failing to score a touchdown. But he remains Pro Football Focus' sixth-ranked running back, since his lack of production can largely be blamed on Miami's offensive line.
Miami is left with Kenyan Drake and Damien Williams at running back.
