Packers confirm Rodgers needs surgery for broken collarbone

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed quarterback Aaron Rodgers will require surgery to repair a broken collarbone suffered Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.

McCarthy was not willing to write Rodgers off for the remainder of the season, but vented his frustrations Monday regarding the "totally unnecessary" hit by Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Rumors began to swirl immediately following Sunday's game about whether the Packers will look internally or externally to replace Rodgers, but McCarthy was quick to give backup Brett Hundley his vote of confidence moving forward.

The 53-year-old confirmed Monday that the team will look to add a third quarterback to slot in behind Hundley and Joe Callahan, who now moves into the backup role. However, he remained mum on the likelihood of bringing Colin Kaepernick into the fold, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
