Report: Raiders, Bowman have strong mutual interest; visit scheduled

Kyle Terada / USA TODAY Sports

The Oakland Raiders and NaVorro Bowman have strong mutual interest and the free-agent linebacker is expected to visit with the team in the coming days, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Bowman was released by the San Francisco 49ers this week after eight seasons. The four-time All-Pro was reportedly shopped around the league before ultimately being cut.

The Raiders desperately need reinforcements on the defensive side of the ball, especially at inside linebacker. Oakland ranks 25th in run defense.

After a devastating knee injury in 2014 and an Achilles tear last season, Bowman isn't the player he once was. However, he's still strong against the run, and would certainly provide an upgrade for the Raiders if signed.
