NFL maintains Elliott's suspension remains intact despite report to contrary

The NFL released a statement Saturday evening maintaining that Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is still suspended, after a report suggesting there is disagreement between the league and NFLPA over whether the injunction blocking Elliott's suspension had been lifted, pending a rehearing.

The statement reads as follows:

The suspension of Ezekiel Elliott remains in place. The order from the district court is administrative and does not in any way change the appeals court's order vacating the preliminary injunction. Any reporting to the contrary is inaccurate and misleading.

It was previously reported that the NFL and NFLPA had differing interpretations of the Fifth Court's ruling. The NFL was adamant that the ruling stated that an injunction had been lifted on Elliott's suspension and it would be applied immediately. It was also reported that the league was under the impression that the case would be decided on a ruling from the Fifth Court of Appeals, where the court would determine to dismiss the case entirely, at the request of the NFLPA.

The NFLPA believed that U.S. District Court Judge Amos L. Mazzant would not lift the injunction until the Fifth Court of Appeals ruled on Elliott's petition for rehearing, which the union announced its intention to submit on Friday. Mazzant blocked Elliott's suspension ahead of the season, and blocked a motion for an emergency stay on the sanction, submitted by the NFL.

The Cowboys are on their bye week, giving Elliott and his legal team more time to proceed.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported that the Fifth Court would clarify their ruling by Tuesday at the latest.
