Report: Bengals' Eifert will undergo season-ending back surgery

David Kohl / USA TODAY Sports

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert will undergo season-ending back surgery, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Eifert, who flew to Los Angeles to consult a doctor before making his decision, is expected to miss four-to-six months and will become a free agent at the end of the season, Schefter added.

The 27-year-old caught four passes for 46 yards in the first two games of the season, but has missed Cincinnati's last three contests.

He previously underwent back surgery in December and has also battled a knee injury throughout the 2017 campaign.

The Bengals have gone 2-1 in Eifert's absence, while backup tight end Tyler Kroft has seen his targets increase.
