Rams, Ogletree agree to 4-year extension worth reported $42M
The Los Angeles Rams signed linebacker Alec Ogletree to a four-year extension Wednesday.
Terms weren't disclosed, but the extension is worth $42 million, with $30 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It's the second-most guaranteed money for an inside linebacker, trailing only Carolina Panthers star Luke Kuechly.
"Alec has evolved into a true leader of our football team and we are excited to sign him to this extension,” Rams general manager Les Snead said in a press release. "His teammates voted him as a captain in back-to-back seasons for a reason - and it’s not only because of his production, but his character and resiliency. We look forward to Alec helping our team emerge as a consistent winner for years to come."
Ogletree was named a second-team All-Pro in 2016 and is one of the leaders of the Rams' front seven alongside standout defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
The 26-year-old is off to an excellent start to the 2017 season, recording 35 tackles, two sacks, and two pass deflections in five games.
Under an upstart regime led by head coach Sean McVay, the Rams are making sure their key components remain under contract for the foreseeable future.
