Encarnacion could return for ALDS after suffering ankle sprain

The Cleveland Indians received some positive news regarding Edwin Encarnacion's health after the slugger left Game 2 of the ALDS with a right ankle sprain.

"Right now, they say he's day to day, which, if that's the case, is tremendous," Indians manager Terry Francona told reporters, according to John Perrotto of USA TODAY Sports. "We'll see how he shows tomorrow. We obviously don't want to rush in putting him on (the disabled list). So, we'll see how he does."

Encarnacion had to be helped off the field after rolling his right ankle while trying to run back to second base to tag up in the first inning. The three-time All-Star appeared to be in considerable pain as he laid on the ground, and was later spotted in the clubhouse wearing a walking boot while using crutches.

The Indians hold a 2-0 series lead over the New York Yankees and don't play again until Sunday in the Bronx. Should they advance, Game 1 of the ALCS doesn't open until Oct. 13.

Encarnacion led the club with 38 homers and 107 RBIs during the regular season.
