Gore still wants to see 49ers succeed: 'That's what I bleed'
Frank Gore will always be a San Francisco 49er first.
The veteran running back's new team - the Indianapolis Colts - will host the 49ers this week for the first time since he left the club where he spent a decade. While Gore will be battling against San Francisco on Sunday, he said he'll always cheer for the 49ers.
"I want to see them do great," Gore said Wednesday, according to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. "I’ve been there 10 years. That’s what I bleed."
The 49ers still have a lot of appreciation for Gore, who's just three yards away from becoming the NFL's seventh all-time leading rusher.
"I still think he's one of the most underrated backs of our generation," said 49ers first-year head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Gore said he was initially bitter about the team letting him go in favor of Carlos Hyde, but has since gotten over it. Hyde, who was a rookie when he played with the veteran back, remembered a sage piece of advice from Gore on Wednesday:
"Never let a rookie take your spot."
