HOFer Jerry Rice fills retirement time by crashing weddings

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

Seven years after his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, wide receiver Jerry Rice appears to be struggling to fill his free time.

Rice has been spending weekends showing up to random carefully selected golf courses, bars, or restaurants, telling Kevin Clark of The Ringer he crashes at least one wedding per weekend.

In a testimonial given to Clark by a recent newlywed named Matt, Rice apparently isn't aware of rule No. 3. Never confess.

"Then the guy at the door comes a third time and says, 'You've got to come out again,' and I'm saying, 'Really?' So I walked out with him and Jerry Rice is standing there saying, 'Hey, I'm Jerry,'" Matt said.

Rice isn't doing it solely for the free booze or in search of dance partners. He claims to have legitimate intentions.

"I just want to go up to the bride and the groom and congratulate them," Rice said. "Tell them, 'Today is your day.'"

Pro Football Reference lists Rice's official nicknames as "The G.O.A.T.," "World," and "Flash 80."

There's no word on when "Baba Ganoush" will be added.
