Aguero will miss 6 weeks, says Argentina's team doctor

Sergio Aguero is now expected to miss six weeks of action as a result of the injury he suffered in last week's car accident, Argentina team doctor Donato Villani said Tuesday.

Manchester City had envisioned Aguero would return to training within two to four weeks, but Villani suggests the Argentine's situation is worse than initially believed.

One thing's for certain: Aguero is sidelined for his country's final two World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador. His absence could have severe consequences, as losses in either match could cost Argentina a ticket to Russia.

"He's feeling very bad because he was really looking forward to coming to play and this incident, which had nothing to do with him, left him out of the two games," Villani told TyC Sports, courtesy of the Guardian's Mark Robson. "He's going to be off the pitch for a month and a half.

"He can't move in his house, nor get in and out of the car. He seemed very down to me because he wanted to be here."

Aguero would miss as many as four Premier League matches and both of City's Champions League contests against Napoli if Villani's timetable is accurate.

The 29-year-old broke his rib while riding in a taxi in the Netherlands last Thursday. The cab driver lost control of the vehicle before crashing into a lamp post.

Aguero had been in fine form prior to the car accident, scoring six goals in his past five appearances across all competitions.
