Mendy calls out journalist over 'ruptured ACL' claim

Chances are that if there's a rumour floating around on Twitter about Benjamin Mendy, the Manchester City left-back has likely caught wind of it.

That probably explains Mendy's response to a journalist who suggested the Frenchman suffered a ruptured ACL and could miss up to nine months.

Mendy, who is quickly becoming a popular presence on social media among City and neutral fans alike, injured his knee during Saturday's win over Crystal Palace. Reports on Tuesday indicated he will see a specialist in Barcelona to discover if there are any damaged ligaments.

As he presumably waits for the result of a scan, Mendy was quick to call out journalist Duncan Castles and question his medical credentials.

While Castles' message was not a concrete confirmation of the injury, Mendy was obviously bothered by the suggestion that he will miss the better part of a year just months after completing a £52-million transfer from AS Monaco.

In his absence Tuesday during a Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk, manager Pep Guardiola deployed midfielder Fabian Delph at left-back, where he performed well despite his lack of experience at the position.

After the match, Guardiola confirmed Mendy will be "out for months" but said more will be known when the results of his meeting with a specialist are disclosed. He also wouldn't confirm or deny whether City will attempt to buy a replacement during the January transfer period.
