Ranking the Premier League's top 5 strikers

The best collection of forwards in the world are putting on a clinic in England.

A peek up the leaders board reveals a somewhat expected group of players leading the Premier League's scoring race, with familiar names such as Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane occupying the top spots.

But it's the frequency at which players unfamiliar with the English brand have eased into a new environment that adds more intrigue to the chase for the Golden Boot award.

Here's a look at the Premier League's top five strikers who have tormented defences in the opening weeks of the season:

5. Gabriel Jesus - Manchester City

It was like a flash of lightning when Gabriel Jesus began his Manchester City career. The excitement over the prospect of witnessing the young Brazilian wreaking havoc on opponents during his blistering start was over in an instant when an injury prematurely ended his first season in England's top flight.

However, the 20-year-old didn't take long to prove that his start last term wasn't a flash in the pan, as he showed class during a recent run that saw him score five goals in four successive matches.

Yet it's his partnership with Sergio Aguero that should benefit Jesus' development, as he's afforded a critical opportunity to learn from one of the Premier League's most prolific strikers while benefiting from stretched out defences struggling to cope with the pair.

4. Alvaro Morata - Chelsea

There's been no shortage of strikers who've added to the Premier League's wealth of attacking options in recent the years, with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Diego Costa, and, now, Alvaro Morata proving critics wrong by making seamless transitions to England's top flight.

The Spanish forward is off to a blazing start in a Blues shirt despite the pressure of filling the void left by an elite scorer such as Costa, who officially departed for Atletico Madrid earlier this week.

Morata, who scored his first Chelsea hat-trick Saturday to move into a tie for the scoring lead, is also proving that he's more than capable of leading an attack following years at Real Madrid where his talents were seemingly suppressed.

3. Sergio Aguero - Manchester City

After 78 years, Eric Brook will soon have company atop Manchester City's all-time scoring list after Sergio Aguero moved one goal shy of tying Brook's record 177 during Saturday's win over Crystal Palace.

Despite scoring over 20 Premier League goals in each of the last three seasons, there appears to be some deranged form of doubt heading into the current season that saw pundits do their best to pick anyone other than the Argentine to finish among the league leaders in scoring.

But, as he's done in the past, Aguero has quietly gone about his business to finish Matchday 6 tied for the Premier League lead with six goals.

2. Romelu Lukaku - Manchester United

Romelu Lukaku's scoring pace is reaching legendary heights since ditching ditching Everton for Manchester United.

The Belgian forward continued his superb start by scoring his sixth league goal to help his new team collect another three points.

It's been about as smooth a transition as one can make, with Lukaku proving to be the perfect compliment in front of a United squad that's been rewarded handsomely whenever they can link up with the 24-year-old.

1. Harry Kane - Tottenham

After a predictably poor August, Tottenham forward Harry Kane is heating up as he attempts to defend his Premier League Golden Boot for a second successive season.

Another two goals Saturday didn't vault the English international into top spot in the scoring race, but the performance was yet another example of the exceptional form that's been on display throughout Kane's career in north London.
