Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford spoke to the media Wednesday about his knee injury for the first time since missing the team's Week 2 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He said the injury he picked up in Week 1 wasn't the result of contact, and explained why he was forced to the sidelines the following week.

"Really just trying to figure out if I could move, what my limitations were, if I was going to be able to go out there and do what I needed to be able to play quarterback and make moves and protect myself," Bradford said, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN.

"I was hoping that it was going to feel better than it did having rested it on Saturday without really doing a whole lot. Sunday it just didn't feel right. It wasn't ready to go."

Bradford won NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after going 27-for-32 for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the Vikings' season-opening victory over the Saints. The following week, backup Case Keenum went 20-for-37 for 167 yards in a 26-9 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bradford returned to practice Wednesday but wouldn't update his status for Week 3's matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Hopefully, it will continue to get better, but I think a large part of that is depending on how it responds," he said.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer considers Bradford day to day and said he won't know who his starter will be until Sunday.
