Giants' McAdoo vows changes ahead of Eagles matchup

Changes are coming for the New York Giants, according to head coach Ben McAdoo.

"We can’t keep doing the same thing over and over again. That’s insanity. It’s not working. So, we are going to look to make some changes this week, like we did last week. Maybe it will be a little more drastic this week," McAdoo said in a conference call Tuesday ahead of the team's Week 3 road matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Giants have scored just one touchdown while being outscored 43-13 to start the season at 0-2. However, McAdoo insisted the current roster is better than it's performed.

"It’s not that we can’t score, it’s that we haven’t scored," the coach said. "That’s what we go to work for every day. We have to go out and we have to find a way to put points on the board, move the chains and possess the ball. We have enough talent in the building to do it. It’s my job to make sure it gets done. Right now, it is a confidence thing. We need to go out and play with confidence. We have to play with more rhythm and again, we are looking forward to a short week to go out and get it done."

McAdoo has been calling plays for the Giants' offense since 2014, and he retained those responsibilities after being promoted to head coach in 2016. Nevertheless, his own role isn't immune to the potential changes he's considering.

"If that means me giving up play-calling duties, that’s something we will look at, that we’ll talk about," McAdoo said.

The Giants are passing the ball at the highest rate in the league - on 72.2 percent of all offensive plays - and are the only team to not yet reach 100 rushing yards, amassing just 97 through two weeks. Sophomore running back Paul Perkins is averaging just 1.9 yards per carry thus far.

The lack of backfield support is hindering quarterback Eli Manning, who, despite completing 72.9 percent of his passes, has thrown just one touchdown.
