The uniform tweak is intended to be a tribute to the city that was left devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
"It's pretty cool," safety and team captain Garrett Davis told Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle. "It will keep the motto of playing for the city. It won't necessarily be a game about us. We'll be able to go out and fight for the city, fight for the people whose houses were damaged and aren't able to do the things we are able to do."
The Cougars had their scheduled season opener washed out by Harvey, before picking up a win at Arizona on Sept. 9 to finally kick off their campaign.
Rice, which is located about 15 minutes from the home of its Saturday opponent, was also significantly battered by the hurricane.
