Pitt's Narduzzi on James Franklin's taunt: 'They went low, we went high'

Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi said little Monday when asked about the apparent insult thrown his way by Penn State counterpart James Franklin following Saturday's game, but appeared unimpressed nonetheless.

"You'd have to ask him," Narduzzi told reporters, according to Craig Meyer of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "You can ask him that question. They went low, we went high."

Franklin caught the nation's attention after Penn State defeated its longtime rival by suggesting the Panthers care about his program more than his program cares about the Panthers.

"I know last year for their win it was like the Super Bowl," Franklin said. "But for us this was just like beating Akron."

Franklin was given an opportunity to clarify the remark immediately after he made it, but instead said, "You can interpret it however you want." He did go on to note that he's spent the last two years preaching the importance of each victory, regardless of who it comes against.

Pitt knocked off Penn State a year ago but scored an even larger triumph by upsetting Clemson later in the season.
