Georgia's Eason out with knee sprain, Fromm to start vs. Notre Dame

Dale Zanine / USA Today Sports

Georgia quarterback Jacob Eason is listed as week to week after suffering a knee sprain, head coach Kirby Smart announced Monday. Bulldogs backup Jake Fromm relieved Eason against Appalachian State and will start this weekend against Notre Dame.

It's not all bad news for Georgia fans though, as Smart added Eason will not need surgery and will return this year.

Despite his inexperience, Fromm didn't look out of place against the Mountaineers. The freshman pivot threw for 143 yards on 10-of-15 passing with a touchdown.

The Notre Dame defense will be a much stiffer test for Fromm, though, as he tries to hold down the fort until Eason can return.
