Redskins officially place Su'a Cravens on exempt/left squad list

It seems Su'a Cravens won't be appearing for the Washington Redskins anytime soon, as the club announced Sunday that he's on the exempt/left squad list heading in to the season.

The news comes just hours after a report broke that the standout safety contemplated retirement as recently as this weekend.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the designation means that the former USC star will have five days to return to the team following notice regarding consequences of not returning. Should he not return in that time period, he will be ruled out for the season.

"It's shocking, but it is what it is," safety D.J. Swearinger told Mike Jones of the Washington Post about the news. "He's got to handle what he needs to handle, whether it's mental, whether it's family. We're here to support him, but that's something tough. I'm not in those shoes so I can't speak on it. I'm praying for him and hope he'll be back."

Cravens is currently rehabbing from knee surgery, but was expected to return to practice this week.
