The Indianapolis Colts claimed running back Matt Jones off waivers from the Washington Redskins, a source told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Jones spent two seasons in Washington, but slid past Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson, and rookie Samaje Perine on the depth chart this summer, leaving him discontent with his role.
The third-year pro gives the Colts an additional layer of depth in the backfield, where they appear set to lean on grizzled veteran Frank Gore and rookie Marlon Mack. Robert Turbin could also factor into the equation.
Jones rushed for 950 yards and six touchdowns in his two campaigns with the Redskins, averaging 3.9 yards per carry.
