Steelers send Coates to WR-needy Browns for 6th-rounder
Charles LeClaire / USA TODAY Sports
The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded wide receiver Sammie Coates to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a sixth-round pick, the Browns announced Saturday.
The Browns will also receive a 2019 seventh-round pick.
Cleveland has reportedly been seeking reinforcements at wideout, with few proven options behind starters Kenny Britt and Corey Coleman. However, one of their reported targets, Seattle Seahawks receiver Jermaine Kearse, was traded to the New York Jets on Friday.
With the reinstatement of Martavis Bryant and young talents like Eli Rogers and JuJu Smith-Schuster locked in as depth options, Coates was surplus to requirements in Pittsburgh.
