The Washington Redskins waived running back Matt Jones on Saturday, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter, citing a source.
Jones, a starter for seven games last season, had grown unhappy with his role in the team's backfield and reportedly asked the team to trade or release him back in May.
Jones found himself in a crowded backfield, behind Rob Kelley, Chris Thompson, and rookie Samaje Perine.
He'll hit the open market with 20 career games played, 950 rushing yards, and six touchdowns.
