Report: Arsenal runs out of time as €100M move for Lemar collapses

The dominoes are falling - and quickly.

Arsenal doesn't appear to have enough time Thursday to complete a deal for Monaco standout Thomas Lemar, according to the Guardian's David Hytner, despite submitting a bid reportedly worth €100 million (£92 million) for the exciting left winger.

Failing to secure Lemar means Arsenal won't sell Alexis Sanchez to Manchester City, the Daily Mirror's John Cross adds.

Even though Arsenal had reached an apparent breakthrough in negotiations for Lemar - The Telegraph's James Ducker said a fee between the two clubs had been agreed - it's now unlikely all parties will consummate a transfer before the 6 p.m. deadline.

Arsenal only moved for Lemar after City agreed to pay up for Sanchez, but, as Cross reports, Pep Guardiola's side left the Gunners with little time to negotiate with Monaco and agree personal terms with the Frenchman.

City allegedly tempted Arsene Wenger's side with a second £55-million offer for Sanchez earlier on Thursday, but it appears the bid didn't arrive in time.

The fact Lemar is due to feature for Les Bleus in a World Cup qualifier Thursday evening against the Netherlands complicated matters.

In the end, however, Lemar may have been the one to block the transfer. The Evening Standard's James Olley understands the 21-year-old didn't want to play for a team in the Europa League.

Earlier in the summer, the Gunners reportedly failed with a £30-million bid for Lemar, leading manager Arsene Wenger to concede defeat in the race for the star.

Liverpool then entered the competition with bids of £55.5 million and £64.8 million. The principality side rejected both of the Reds' advances.

Jurgen Klopp's side appeared ready to offer an improved package before the end of the transfer window. Although Arsenal's proposal made the previously reticent Monaco consider selling Lemar - at least momentarily - the deal now looks dead, reports Ducker.
