Orlando Magic swingman Jonathon Simmons is a veteran when it comes to enduring hurricanes, but Harvey was something else.

Simmons knew to stockpile additional food, water, and supplies in his Houston home, but his supply quickly ran dry after his friend's house was forced to relocate to his, thus bringing the number of people to 20.

He eventually needed help, which arrived in the form of Houston rapper Trae tha Truth and a mutual friend, who arrived with a boat to save those in his house.

"Trae tha Truth, the rapper, is from Houston and we know a mutual friend from San Antonio," Simmons explained to John Denton of Magic.com. "They brought a boat to Houston because (Trae) had to evacuate as well."

Riding the boat was only the first step. Simmons and Co. encountered a few more hurdles before escaping to safety.

"We still had to ride a boat, walk through muddy water and ride on the back of a dumpster truck for like five miles. It was crazy," Simmons recalled. "I had to hold up my people and I had some kids with me. Most of the kids were old enough to walk, but one of them I had to carry with me."

Simmons mostly escaped unscathed, but the 27-year-old starved for three grueling days as he spared the rations for the children in his party.

"We had to let the kids eat first, so most of the last two days it was kind of rough," Simmons explained. "... I ate a pack of ramen noodles and that’s all for like a day-and-a-half."
