Texans pledge $1M to Houston flood relief fund; NFL, Cowboys to match
The Houston Texans and owner Bob McNair announced Monday a pledge to donate $1 million to the United Way of Greater Houston Flood Relief Fund.
The NFL Foundation also announced it will match the Texans' donation, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.
The Dallas Cowboys will also donate $1 million to help Houston following Hurricane Harvey, according to ESPN's Sarah Barshop, as will the New England Patriots, who will send their contribution to the American Red Cross.
Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said his team will dedicate this season to the people of Houston.
"We hope our actions encourage others to do whatever they can to help their neighbors in need," added O'Brien.
Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt has already raised over $422,000 for flood victims in Houston and is targeting $500,000.
"If there's a way that we can help brighten up people's days for a couple hours on Sundays, we are going to do it," said Watt.
