Reports surfaced Tuesday about a new book that has former NFL coach Mike Martz ripping the Los Angeles Rams over their hire of 31-year-old Sean McVay, according to Jared Dubin of ESPN.

"What is he, a couple month older than Jared (Goff)? They hired a buddy for Jared," Martz said in the book, according to excerpts acquired by ESPN. "And this guy is a quarterback expert? An offensive expert? Wait a minute while I puke."

Martz was quick to respond to the reports, hitting the airwaves on Tuesday to contest the author's claims.

"I would never say something like that," Martz said on ESPN LA 710, adding that the quote "was kind of embellished."

Martz, who led the Rams to a victory in Super Bowl XXXIV, admitted that he took part in the interview, but called it brief and offered a detailed explanation of how he was misquoted.

"I think what I told (author Thomas George) was there's only a couple years' difference between them, and they probably brought him in because of his ability to communicate … but all of that other garbage, I would never say something like that."

"Blitzed: Why NFL Teams Gamble on Starting Rookie Quarterbacks," is set for release this September. Given the bold nature of the quotes, the author will likely need some concrete proof to back up his claims.
