Jets' Hackenberg gets rocked, fails to impress in extended start

It was a rough night for Christian Hackenberg in more ways than one.

The New York Jets quarterback was given a surprise start when coach Todd Bowles indicated that Josh McCown wouldn't play against the Detroit Lions, and was on the receiving end of a massive hit on his first dropback.

Things didn't get much better for Hackenberg, as the signal-caller went 2-for-6 for a measly 14 yards. New York picked up only two first downs and managed just 43 total yards in the first half.

The Jets appeared to be giving Hackenberg a real audition to try and sway them from simply handing the starting role to McCown, but that now seems to be the only option.

Bowles did say on his way to the locker room the team needed to play better around Hackenberg.

The Jets had high hopes for Hackenberg after they picked him in the second round of the 2016 draft, but he hasn't rewarded New York for its investment thus far.
