The Miami Dolphins have signed free-agent linebacker Rey Maualuga to a one-year, $900,000 contract, Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reports.

The Dolphins needed reinforcements at linebacker after second-round pick Raekwon McMillan was lost for the season due to a knee injury.

Maualuga reunites with Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke, who was the linebacker's position coach with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The 30-year-old's coverage skills have eroded of late, but he should have enough in the tank to act as an early-down run stuffer.
