Seahawks lose Fant to season-ending ACL injury, further weakening OL

Joe Nicholson / USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks starting left tackle George Fant suffered a season-ending ACL injury during Friday's preseason win over the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Pete Carroll announced, according to ESPN's Sheil Kapadia.

Carroll said Fant will undergo surgery.

"I'm really broken-hearted about George Fant getting hurt," Carroll said. "Just unfortunate. He's done so much and come so far."

Fant was replaced by second-year player Rees Odhiambo after going down in the second quarter and needing the cart to exit the field.

The Seahawks could roll with the inexperienced Odhiambo at Russell Wilson's blindslide, or attempt to slide guard Luke Joeckel to left tackle, where he started his career.

Either way, the Seahawks' arguably weakest position just lost got even weaker with the loss of Fant, who expressed his gratitude for the support early Saturday on Twitter:
