Jonathan Dos Santos: I was 'not even close' to signing for Club America

Jonathan Dos Santos is one of Mexico's most used players under Juan Carlos Osorio, and El Tri's supporters are sceptical about the product of La Masia's move to Major League Soccer. It came at a time when the Colombian manager was stressing the need for the national team's footballers to play in Europe.

Nonetheless, Dos Santos didn't have any doubts about joining the LA Galaxy.

During an appearance on Nacion ESPN, Dos Santos debunked reports which alleged he was close to signing for Club America, and others claiming he used Los Aguilas to influence a deal with the Galaxy. He admitted to talks with the Mexican club, but made it clear that a move to MLS was always in the cards.

Asked how close he was to signing for America on a scale of one to 100, Dos Santos answered: "Not even close. Not even close. Yes, it's true there were talks, but they were normal. I never used America as they said. The Galaxy, I had it at 100 percent, 98 percent, to sign with them. But, in the end, as I said, I appreciate that trust that everyone had in me. In the end, what most called my attention was the project that, for me, the Galaxy had."

The Galaxy signed Dos Santos from Villarreal CF in July and became its third Designated Player.
