The New York Knicks didn't seem remotely interested in swapping Kristaps Porzingis for Kyrie Irving, a league source told Newsday's Steven Marcus and Mike Rose.

A report Tuesday said the Cleveland Cavaliers have made Porzingis a "primary target" if they were to give up Irving, since the Cavs would prefer to get back an elite young talent in case LeBron James leaves via free agency in 2018. Irving's reportedly asked for a trade and done nothing to deny the rumors.

"(Knicks president) Steve Mills and (general manager) Scott Perry, on the record, were very clear that Kristaps was part of the future," the source told Newsday. "In all the discussions since then - there were other rumors before that Cleveland would want Kristaps - and it didn't seem that they were interested at all in a conversation."

The 7-foot-3 Porzingis was the topic of trade talk before the Knicks parted ways with former president Phil Jackson in June. Angry with the 22-year-old for blowing off an exit interview, Jackson publicly admitted to taking calls for him.

Ridiculed by New York fans and media given Porzingis' value to the franchise, Jackson left the organization a week later. However, another report soon surfaced indicating several members of the Knicks' brass backed a possible trade.

Irving, who grew up in nearby West Orange, N.J., has reportedly listed New York as one of his preferred destinations. He remains under contract with the Cavs through at least the 2018-19 season.
