The Carolina Panthers have signed veteran linebacker Thomas Davis to an extension that will add one year to his contract and keep him with the team through the 2018 season, the team announced Tuesday.

The deal is worth $6.75 million with $2 million guaranteed, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

"I'm extremely excited. Everybody knows how I feel about being a Carolina Panther," Davis said, according to a team release. "This extension solidifies me being here for the rest of my career, and I'm excited about that. Now it's totally focused on winning a Super Bowl."

The 34-year-old had one year remaining on his current deal. Davis had expressed his desire for a new deal throughout the offseason and reportedly negotiated with former general manager Dave Gettleman before the executive was fired.

Davis has spent his entire career with the Panthers and has made the Pro Bowl in the last two seasons. He is the team's all-time leading tackler.
