PGA Championship likely returning to Quail Hollow

There hasn't been a competitive shot fired at this week's PGA Championship, but the PGA of America is already looking to come back to Quail Hollow Club.

"Operationally, we think the championship just sets up well here," PGA of America CEO Pete Bevacqua said Wednesday at a press conference. "So we of course need to get through this week, but I would tell you we can't wait to get back here. I think it's 100 percent in our plans to bring the PGA Championship back to Quail Hollow."

The PGA of America didn't mention a specific date for the return, but with the next six championships already assigned, the earliest slot available would be in 2024.

"We'll go through the week, we'll regroup with (Quail Hollow president) Johnny Harris and (general chair) Ralph Breeden and the membership, and at the appropriate time, talk about next steps," Bevacqua said. "But I think it's very safe to say that we very much want to come back."

The club will again stage the Wells Fargo Championship in 2018, and was awarded the 2021 Presidents Cup matches.
