Starting quarterbacks don't often start in the first week of preseason, but Carson Wentz won't be given such leniency.

Entering his second season, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback will get the nod in the team's opener against the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. Head coach Doug Pederson made the announcement Tuesday morning, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com, and wouldn't specify how long he intended Wentz to play.

Wentz has spent the offseason refining his mechanics and getting acclimated with some of his new targets.

He also played in the first week of last year's preseason and suffered an injury. He sat out the rest of the preseason, and was healthy for the regular-season opener.
