Report: Elliott met with Goodell in late June

Eric Hartline / USA TODAY Sports

Ezekiel Elliott met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in late June as part of the league's investigation into the domestic violence allegation against the player, NBC's Michele Tafoya reported Thursday.

Tafoya's report contrasts a July 28 story from Deadspin's Dom Cosentino that indicated Goodell wasn't involved in any of the disciplinary proceedings concerning the Dallas Cowboys running back.

Elliott has yet to be sanctioned by the league. It was reported Monday that the NFL isn't expected to make a decision this week, as Goodell's waiting on four outside advisers who attended the hearings to finish their work before determining whether Elliott will be sanctioned.

"My hope is that Zeke is with us opening night," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on NBC's broadcast Thursday. He's vehemently defended Elliott throughout the investigation.

Elliott was never arrested or charged.
