Watch: Larry The Snail wins World Snail Racing Championships

Larry The Snail proved slow and steady really does win the race after claiming victory at the World Snail Racing Championships in Congham, England on Saturday.

Larry, who was found in owner Tara Beasley's garden the night before the event, completed the 13-inch course in two minutes and 47 seconds, beating out 134 other snails.

"Tara has taken Larry home and she has treated him to some grapes," race organizer Hilary Scase told Rebecca Murphy of the Eastern Daily Press. "She thinks that he managed to win because when she got him out of the garden she sat him on cucumber and she thought that was a good diet.

"She is now going to keep him for a bit to spoil him."
