Wentz: Eagles have talent to go from worst to first in NFC East

Carson Wentz believes the Philadelphia Eagles can leapfrog the rest of the NFC East in 2017 after finishing at the bottom of the division last season.

The Eagles went 7-9 in Wentz's rookie season, falling victim to a much-improved NFC East, as the Dallas Cowboys. New York Giants, and Washington Redskins all finished with winning records.

But after a successful offseason in which the Eagles bolstered the offensive talent around him, Wentz is eyeing a worst-to-first turnaround.

"We have high expectations around here," Wentz said on WIP Thursday, according to CSN Philly's Dave Zangaro. "We hope and we expect to be playing into January and then to see what happens. I think that's the biggest thing.

"Our goal is to win the NFC East and we believe we have the guys to do it.

"We just have to now go put the work in and go make things happen. We have high expectations ... 7-9 is never good enough. I never want to be done after the regular season again. That doesn't sit well with me and it never will. We definitely have high expectations to be playing into January and then hopefully get hot and see what happens."

After a torrid start to his NFL career, Wentz's play dropped off significantly over the latter portion of the campaign.

However, with receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith added in free agency and star right tackle Lane Johnson's 10-game suspension behind him, the young pivot could be in line for a sophomore jump and a playoff push.
