Potential top pick Darnold: No team should tank because of me

Sam Darnold does not seem to like the idea of playing for the New York Jets after next season - or anyone else willing to sacrifice wins for his services.

The USC quarterback who is projected to be one of the top picks in the 2018 NFL draft is reportedly no lock to declare for the pros after the 2017 season. Darnold's reported indecisiveness could stem from his disapproval of a team tanking for the right to select him.

"I don't think any team should tank their season because of me," Darnold told SportsCenter on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Dianna Russini. "I'm taking it one year at a time."

Darnold led USC to a 10-3 record last season as a redshirt freshman while throwing for 3,086 yards with 31 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

The 20-year-old quarterback has plenty of time to make his decision on the 2018 draft with a full season ahead of him and three more years of collegiate eligibility.
