Report: Yankees pursuing trade for Marlins' Bour
The New York Yankees appear to have their sights set on an upgrade at first base.
The club is said to be pursuing a trade for Miami Marlins slugger Justin Bour, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
Of all the positions, first base represents the biggest need for the Bronx Bombers. The club has seen seven different players - Greg Bird, Tyler Austin, Matt Holliday, Chris Carter, Rob Refsnyder, Austin Romine and Ji-Man Choi - start there this season, all of whom have failed to leave much of an impact. The group has combined to .178/.274/.352, negative-1 WAR, and a dismal 66 wRC+ this year.
For a deal to come to fruition, it's expected the Marlins will seek a fairly high return for the left-handed first baseman. Entering Saturday, Bour has hit .286/.363/.546 with 19 home runs and 56 RBIs while contributing 1.8 WAR.
The 29-year-old also carries an extremely reasonable contract. He will earn $552,500 this year and is under team control until 2021.
