David Johnson motivated to help Cardinals win title for Palmer, Fitzgerald

David Johnson is hoping to send a pair veteran teammates out with an accomplishment that has eluded them to this point in their otherwise successful NFL careers.

Making an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals running back detailed his motivation to help Carson Palmer and Larry Fitzgerald get that ever-elusive ring.

"I don't know as far as the team, but for me, I feel like definitely (it's a goal to win for them)," Johnson said, via Kevin Patra of NFL.com. "Because Carson, especially Carson and Larry, those two guys have taught me so much in these last two years that helped me so much with the playbook.

"Learning how to run a route effectively, it's not all about speed, it's also about technique and stuff. So I really want to do it for those guys. Especially since they're such - not just great athletes, but great people off the field. So I feel like there's a little pressure on me to do as much as I can to get that ring for those two."

The Cardinals were widely considered to be a Super Bowl favorite heading into 2016, boasting one of the league's most talented and well-balanced rosters on both sides of the ball.

Things didn't exactly work out as planned, though, with some frustrating inconsistencies leading to a 7-8-1 finish. Now that Palmer and Fitzgerald have put off retirement for at least another year, Arizona will give it another go with their longtime leaders in the mix.

Johnson will, of course, have a major impact on the club's chances of accomplishing the lofty goal.

The 2015 third-round pick has quickly demonstrated an ability to single-handedly carry an offense. In a breakout sophomore campaign last year, Johnson compiled an impressive stat line of 1,239 rushing yards, 879 receiving yards, and 20 total touchdowns.
